# What? **Agnosticism** in this context isn't the same way I'd say you would use it in the theism vs atheism debate, instead agnosticism is a strong adherence to procedural, pluralist politics. Not necessarily ideology. **Gnosticism** would be a lack of caring about the general will of the people, instead seeking to enact your ideals for a subset of the nation onto all. *You could argue this is a negative framing of Gnosticism, but I think in truth most people would agree with this, especially if you truly believe in what you do. Even a leftist would agree with this, though they would frame it as "everyone wants this they just don't know it yet."* To continue this, and this tracks generally with the voting groups [[theism]] is more akin to Republicans and [[atheism]] is more akin to Democrats. Not to say that is 100%, but as the most obvious example, Republicans care very much about abortion due to their strongly held religious beliefs that they wish to enforce on everyone. Democrats in contrast are more often try to lean towards allowing people to choose for themselves. I think this simple example illustrates exactly what I'm talking about, obviously you can go back and forth nitpicking at the details, but the broad strokes of it I believe are agreeable by both sides. # Why? Well, I've seen people use the term liberalism to be the defining characteristic of the Democrats, but when I hear leftist discuss their disgust with the Democratic party it is generally centered around their lack of will "to enact what the people actually want". I think the core of liberalism is the issue the issue that leftists have with the Democrats. Leftists want a [[gnostic]] approach to politics, not an [[agnostic]] approach.
